What to ask Travis
A quick guide to sizes, fit, occasions and pairing, with questions you can say out loud or type.
The short answer
Ask Travis what you would ask a good salesperson in a boot store. If you’re wondering what to ask Travis, start with four things: the occasion, your size, how the boots should fit, and what you’ll wear them with. Say it out loud or type it, in your own words. Travis asks a follow-up or two, then shows two or three pairs and explains why each one suits you.
Travis is the voice-first AI shopping concierge built by Lone Star Ascent AI in Dallas, Texas. He is live with Alvies, the Austin boot brand, at meettravis.ai, and runs in your phone or computer browser with nothing to download.
Start with the occasion
The occasion tells Travis the most in the fewest words. Try:
- “Boots for a fall wedding.”
- “Something I can walk in all day at the State Fair.”
- “My first pair of cowboy boots.”
- “Something for a night out.”
Add whatever matters to you, like a color, the look you like or how dressy the day is. Each detail narrows the choice.
Ask about your size
Size is the question to settle before you buy, and sizing can vary from one style to the next. Ask about the exact pair you like:
- “I wear an 8 in sneakers. What size should I get in these?”
- “Do these run true to size?”
- “Do these come in a wider fit?”
- “I’m between sizes. Which way should I go?”
Travis checks the size for that pair before anything goes in your cart.
Ask how they should fit
Cowboy boots have no laces, so they feel different from sneakers on the first wear. Ask Travis what to expect:
- “How should these feel the first time I put them on?”
- “Is a little heel slip normal?”
- “How long will these take to break in?”
A little heel slip is normal in new boots. Alvies puts it at roughly a quarter to half an inch. For the full picture, read How should cowboy boots fit?
Ask what goes with them
Travis can style the pair as well as find it. Try:
- “What goes with a denim dress?”
- “Will these work with jeans and a blazer?”
- “Which socks should I wear with these?”
- “How can I make these stand out?”
He can also suggest accessories for the pair you picked, like tassels, fringe, charms and socks.
Compare and narrow it down
Once a few pairs are on screen, short replies work, because Travis remembers the conversation:
- “What’s the difference between these two?”
- “Show me the black pair again.”
- “I like the second one. Does it come in brown?”
You never have to start over or repeat what you’ve already said.
Ask about the boot itself
- “Why is this boot called that?” Every Alvies boot is named for a place or a person, and Travis can tell you who.
- “Where are these made?”
- “How do I care for the leather?”
When you’re ready
Say “add it to my cart” or tap the pair. Travis confirms the size and adds it. For questions about an order you’ve already placed, Travis passes you to the Alvies customer service team.
Talk, type or tap
Voice is optional. You can type every question, tap a suggestion, or mix all three in one conversation. If you want to talk, your browser asks once for permission to use the microphone.
