About Travis

What is Travis?

Travis is an AI shopping assistant that helps you buy boots. You tell him what you need in your own words, out loud or typed, and he asks a few questions about the occasion, the fit and the look you want. Then he shows you the real pairs that match and tells you what is available. Travis was built by Lone Star Ascent AI for the boot brands it works with, starting with Alvies in Austin, Texas. He runs in a browser at meettravis.ai, so there is nothing to download.

Most boot shopping online means guessing at filters. You pick a category, a size and a price range, and then scroll through hundreds of results hoping one of them is right. Travis works the other way around. He starts from what you are actually trying to do, whether that is standing at a wedding in August or working outside all winter, and narrows from there.

How it works

You talk, Travis narrows

  1. You speak or type

Tap the orb and say what you need, or type it into the box. Plain sentences work best. “I need something I can wear to my sister’s wedding and then to work on Monday” is a good start. So is “brown boots, size ten, under three hundred dollars.”

  2. Travis asks about occasion and fit

He follows up the way a good salesperson would. Where are you wearing these? How wide is your foot? Do you want a walking heel or something flatter? Are you after roper, western or a work boot? Each answer removes pairs that would have wasted your time.

  3. You get real pairs, not a results page

Travis comes back with a short list, usually two or three pairs, and tells you why each one fits what you described. You can push back at any point. Say “too tall” or “something darker” and he adjusts. When you are ready, you check out the same way you would on any store.

The difference

How this differs from searching a store

A normal online store makes you translate your problem into its categories before it will help you. You have to already know that you want a 12-inch shaft, a roper toe and a leather outsole. If you do not know those words, the filters are useless to you, and the search box only matches the words a marketing team happened to write into the product page.

Travis removes that translation step. He understands “I stand on concrete twelve hours a day” and “I want these to look sharp with a suit but I don’t want to look like I’m in costume,” and he maps those to the specifications himself. He can also compare two pairs out loud for you, explain what a welt is, and tell you honestly when nothing in stock is right for what you asked.

The practical difference is time. Filtering a catalog of several hundred boots to a decision usually takes a dozen page loads and a lot of second-guessing. A conversation with Travis takes a couple of minutes and ends with a short list you can actually judge.

Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before their first conversation with Travis, answered in full.

Do I have to use my microphone?

No. Talking is the fastest way to use Travis, but every part of the conversation also works by typing. There is a text box under the orb on every screen, so you can type your first message and keep typing for the whole conversation. If your browser asks for microphone permission and you decline, Travis carries on in text without complaining. This matters if you are in an office, on a train, or simply would rather not talk to your phone.

What brands and boots does Travis carry?

Travis recommends from the catalog of the brand whose store he is working on, not the whole internet. Today that is Alvies, a boot company in Austin, Texas, and more brands are being added. Whatever the brand, he tells you what is available, and he will tell you plainly when the range does not have what you are describing instead of pushing you toward the nearest thing that happens to be available.

Can Travis help me find my size?

Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to talk to him. Boot sizing is not the same as sneaker sizing, and it varies by last and by style. Tell Travis the size and width you wear in a brand you already own, mention anything about your feet that usually causes trouble such as a high instep or a wide forefoot, and he will translate that into the right size in the pair you are looking at. He will also tell you when a particular style runs long or short, and what to do if you land between two sizes.

Does Travis work on a phone?

Yes. Travis runs in the browser on any modern phone, tablet or computer, and the phone experience is the one most people use. Open meettravis.ai in Safari or Chrome, tap the orb and talk. There is no app to install from the App Store or Google Play, and nothing to update. Voice works on phones as long as you allow microphone access when the browser asks; if you don’t, you can type instead.

Who built Travis?

Travis was built by Lone Star Ascent AI, a company in Austin, Texas that builds voice-first shopping assistants for retail brands. Travis is its first live assistant, built for the boot brand Alvies. He exists because the questions customers asked in person were nothing like the filters on a website: people walked in and described a wedding, a job or a horse, and a salesperson turned that into a pair of boots. Travis does that same job online.

Can I just browse normally instead?

Yes. The ordinary store is still there and nothing about Travis is required. Every screen has the usual category navigation for men’s boots, women’s boots, accessories and lifestyle, so you can ignore the orb entirely and shop by browsing, filtering and searching the way you always have. Plenty of people use both: they browse for a while, get stuck between two pairs, and then ask Travis which one suits what they described.

Is Travis a real person?

No. Travis is an AI assistant, not a human salesperson, and he tells you so if you ask. If you want to speak to a person about an order, a return or a repair, the brand’s customer service team handles that and Travis will point you there.

Can Travis help with returns, exchanges or care?

Travis can answer questions about how the return and exchange process works, what condition boots need to be in, and how long it usually takes. He can also walk you through conditioning leather, dealing with salt stains and resoling. For anything that needs action on a specific order, such as starting an exchange or chasing a delivery, he hands you to the brand’s customer service team with the details you have already given him.
